Andrews confident of keeping key Brentford players in January

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews is confident of retaining his key players during January and backed the club to make really sensible decisions over any new signings.

The Bees sit ninth in the table following a goalless draw with Tottenham on New Years Day, which saw the transfer window open again.

Defender Kristoffer Ajer has been linked with a move to Wolfsburg, while Brentford are reported to be tracking Feyenoord midfielder Quinten Timber.

Whatever deals may be done over the coming weeks, Andrews feels everything will be with the bigger picture in mind.

Definitely retaining will be number one on the agenda for our key players, and I think that should be fine. Then, as I said before, I think January in general is a tricky month, Andrews said at a press conference ahead of Sundays trip to Everton.

We are in a position in the league, we are very stable, but we dont need to make any decisions that are not right for the club in the medium to long term.

I think that will be the case if we identify targets, which we always do because this club is so well run on the recruitment side, how we deal with players and try to build the right balance to the squad.

I think we are in a good place to do that where we can do that and make really sensible decisions that will hold us in good stead.

Moyes hopes to send Armstrong back to Preston after loan recall

Everton boss David Moyes hopes to send teenager Harrison Armstrong back to Preston for the rest of the Championship season after recalling him from a loan spell to cover for absentees.

The 18-year-old has made 13 starts for Paul Heckingbottoms Preston side this season, helping put them in the fight for a Championship play-off place, but has been recalled with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall injured and Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gueye both at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Asked if he now has the opportunity to force his way into Evertons first-team squad long-term, Moyes said: Theres an opportunity if he does well but the truth is I would like him to go back to Preston, I want Preston to get promoted its my old club where I played and where I managed and theyre in a really good position.

I think its been really good for him. I watched him quite regularly playing for Preston and hes doing a good job for them and if things allow it then I will certainly send him back because its been really good for his development.

The relegation-threatened club are looking to strengthen in the forward areas and are closing in on a move for the 27-year-old Argentinian.

A move for Castellanos (pictured below), who has scored two goals in 12 games this season, comes as the Hammers also eye signing Pablo.

The striker is set to join Nuno Espirito Santo's side from Portuguese side Gil Vicente in a 20m deal.

Amorim: No Man Utd transfer discussions

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has suggested there are no transfer discussions ongoing despite the January window being open.

'I am demanding of the club in the transfer window,' says Emery

Unai Emery has outlined how "demanding" he is of the hierarchy at Aston Villa as the club look to navigate Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) to recruit new players in the January transfer window.

Villa completed the signing of 19-year-old winger Alysson from Gremio in a deal worth up to 10m but Your Site News reported first-team signings were unlikely unless players were sold.

"If we can improve, we must do. The club is working on it and I am demanding of the club," Emery said.

"We are trying to understand how we can improve our squad but of course, intelligently and with the financial rules.

"We are a team and my mentality is to be alert if we can improve something in the squad.

"We must be ready for different options we can have in the transfer window."

Villa look to cut Elliott deal short after deciding not to sign him two months ago

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has confirmed the club will look to cut Harvey Elliott's loan move from Liverpool short to make way for signings in the January transfer window.

Villa signed Elliott on loan with an obligation to buy if a certain amount of appearances were reached but the midfielder has not featured since October 2, making five appearances across all competitions in total.

"We have the issue of Harvey Elliott," he said in his press conference ahead of facing Nottingham Forest, live on Your Site, this Saturday.

"I am respecting all I can because he is a very good professional, good guy and respectful.

"It is something I must take a decision [with]. He is a very good player and person, he deserves the best for him.

"After it, if he is leaving and we can maybe try to use the position to work for something."

When asked for further details on how easy it was to cut the deal short, Emery added: "The problem we have with Harvey (Elliott) is this year he is on loan and in case he is playing matches, we must buy him.

"We decided two months ago we are not convinced to sign him, spending the money we need. This is the issue."

"He is training every day with good behaviour. It is of course, not something good for him or for us but this is football. Sometimes we have to take some decisions."

Hurzeler: Gross is a quality player

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler admits he continues to rate Pascal Gross highly amid rumours the German could rejoin the Seagulls.

The midfielder moved to Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2024 after seven years at the Amex Stadium but has been linked with a return.

"I definitely like him as a player," said Hurzeler at a press conference. "I had contact with him because we tried to keep him here, but he wanted to follow his dream. We respected that.

"Then you continue to follow the players who did great things for the club. We rate him highly. I think he's a quality player."

Brighton hope to end their six-game winless run as they host struggling Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.

Guardiola committed to Man City contract despite Maresca speculation

Icon

Pep Guardiola has reiterated his desire to stay on at Manchester City amid fresh rumours surrounding Enzo Maresca.

The long-serving City manager said last month he intended to see out his contract at the Etihad Stadium, which runs until the summer of 2027.

That came following speculation City had identified then Chelsea boss Maresca, a former assistant of Guardiolas, as a potential successor to the Spaniard should he decide to step down this summer.

Maresca has since parted company with Chelsea dramatically leaving Stamford Bridge on New Years Day and there have been claims the Italians exit came after he informed the club he had held talks with City.

Guardiola, who will celebrate the 10th anniversary of his appointment this year, said: The only (thing) I can say is that Chelsea, I think, from my point of view, lose an incredible, incredible manager, incredible person.

But this (is a) decision from the hierarchy from Chelsea, so (I have) nothing to say.

In football? Surprise? No. It only confirms how lucky I am in the club where I am. My club is extraordinary.

He added: I have a contract. I said a thousand million times. Its 10 years here, I will leave one day but I have a contract. Im happy. I want to fight with my team.

The hierarchy respect me, that was proved last season with what happened in this club we didnt win one game in two, three months. They supported me.

I have one more years contract. I like to be here, so we will see, you will see.
